Master of Arts in Science Teaching (MAST) A non-thesis graduate program designed specifically for Middle and High School teachers of science and mathematics. The program requires 33 credit hours of course work to include 21 hours of science courses, 12 of which will be in the major science areas of Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Geology and Geophysics, Mathematics, and Physics. Twelve hours must be at the 6000 level; at least three included in approved Education courses; and the remaining hours in a major science or cognate area, the latter including Education, Computer Science or Psychology. The above courses are content in nature to include the basic and current concepts in the areas represented by the seven departments in the College of Sciences. The objective of the program is to allow science teachers to bring themselves to the forefront in their particular field and/or to gain insight in an additional certification area. These courses will be instructed by faculty currently doing active teaching and research in that particular area of science. It can also be a flexible curriculum allowing non-science disciplines to be incorporated as well. The program requires an overall B average (3.0) or better in formal course work. Inquires should be directed to the College of Sciences office.
